“If we walk in the light as he is in the light, then we have fellowship with one another…” 1 John, 1:7
The theme of fellowship or being part of a community is very important for everyone. We, humans, are spiritual and physical social beings. For us to holistically mature as such, it is necessary for us to develop good relationships with others in communities of different levels.
Because of selfishness, people often choose a path contrary to our nature. This choice leads to numerous problems and devastating consequences.
It, is unfortunate that many people who do not formally reject God from their own lives and consider themselves Christians, but reject the basic human need of living in community.
Usually, the attempt is made to justify such behavior by the explanation that a direct relationship with God, without any intermediaries is enough. Such an explanation is not based on Truth. It is also a manifestation of a selfishness that nourishes the illusion of self-sufficiency. This justification is a seemingly easy way to avoid responsibility for the lives of the people around us as well as our own lives.
It is impossible to renew and maintain a good relationship with God, and, at the same time, make no efforts to have stable relationship in His community, the community God gave and gives us.
Jesus, as the Savior of mankind continues his mission of redemption and sanctification through the Church He established, the community of God.
